The game of football was invented in 1364 in the English village of Fethbell. Villagers, looking for something to do during a summer drought, kicked an inflated pigs bladder around the village green. It proved to be fun. Goals were added to the game in 1381, and the rectangular shape of the pitch 3 years after that. At this time the game lasted up to 14 days and it was within the rules to use weapons to “club your opponents to submission”.
