Every beetle contains two, completely separate living creatures. They govern the front and rear legs respectively. Food and liquid is shared equally via the mouth parts. Once in a while you will be able to observe a beetle “argument”, in which the front and rear disagree about which direction they should go. In 80% of cases the front wins, but this can cause “beetle tension” in which the rear legs simply lock up and prevent movement.
